There aren’t many topics in politics as sexy as taxes and government waste, fraud, and abuse. However, rapper Cardi B is highlighting these wonky issues, and rest assured, very few saw it coming.
In an Instagram video, the “Bodak Yellow” rapper ripped federal, state, and local governments over the “40 percent” in taxes she’s paying and not knowing where the money she worked hard for is going. (Warning: Explicit language)
“So you know the government is taking 40 percent of my taxes,” she said in her Instagram video. “Uncle Sam, I want to know what you’re doing with my fucking tax money.”
Cardi B, born Belcalis Almanzar, continued to highlight the lack of transparency over where government money is appropriated.
When most celebrities and entertainers weigh in on politics, it’s usually with some derivative left-leaning comment to say how morally repulsed they are by President Trump and his administration. And Cardi B definitely isn’t a fan of the Trump administration – she took part in a mock audition to narrate Michael Wolff’s book Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House that portrayed Trump in a very unflattering light and said that Trump as “out [of] his mind” for wanting to arm teachers after the Parkland shooting in February.
Whatever her politics, Cardi B should be commended for her criticism of the government in this regard.
There’s nothing more bipartisan (and libertarian) than wanting government transparency on where your tax dollars are going. After all, given all the millions of dollars she’s making, the likelihood that her money is going to something she morally opposes is pretty high. Her tax dollars could be refueling Saudi warplanes flying over Yemen as they conduct a bombing raid that results in the collateral damage of civilian deaths. On the other hand, her money could also be going to scientific and medical research on the verge of a breakthrough.
This video might not do much in actually getting the government to give her what she wants. But if her message gets a portion of her 20.1 million Instagram followers to start caring about and even start demanding to know where their tax money is going, then it would have been well worth it.
