FRC knows all about ‘reckless rhetoric’
Re: “Man charged in FRC shooting to get mental evaluation, Aug. 17
It simply defies belief that Tony Perkins and the Family Research Councilwould ask gay rights groups to “join us in calling for an end to the reckless rhetoric” theysay resulted in the recent shooting at their headquarters.
Few organizationsinthe Christian Right movement have engaged in “reckless rhetoric” more than the FRC. Perkins has labeled gay people as “pawns of Satan” and gay activists as “terrorists.”And FRC’sdirector of cultural studies once said, “Gaining access to children is a long-term goal of the homosexual movement.”
Perkins has also statedthat pedophilia “is a homosexual problem”; one of FRC’s many anti-gay publications was entitled “Homosexual Activists Work to Normalize Sex with Boys.”After the unfortunate case of the gay student who jumped off the George Washington Bridge to his death, Perkins statedthatgay teens kill themselves because they know they’re abnormal.
The Southern Poverty Law Centerlabeledthe FRC as a hate group not because ofmere policy differences over same-sex marriage but because hate speech isFRC’sstock in trade. It finally came back to bite them.

Obama team reduced to mud-slinging
Re: “Romney camp seizes on Biden ‘chains’ comment,” Aug. 15
Vice President Joe Biden’sracist remark that Republican candidates Mitt Romney and PaulRyan will put black people “back in chains” and its defense by President Obama is, as Mitt Romney says, unworthy of the president and vice president and an insult to many Americans.
Biden’s comment certainly shows that Romney will make a much better president than Obama, restoring the dignity and honor the office deserves. It also demonstratesRomney’s superior decision-makingskills in hischoice of a running mate who can helpunite and lead the country toprosperity.
Biden’s scurrilous racist comment is revolting, especially after the Obama/Biden team has kept the country in economic chains for over three years with over 8 percent unemployment (40 percent among young blacks) and skyrocketing federal debt.
Obama/Biden can’t run on their records, so they are reduced to slinging mud at Romney/Ryan.

Voters will resist any changes to Medicare
Re: “Ryan to hit back at Democrats on Medicare,” Aug. 13
Mitt Romney is making it easy for President Obama to be re-elected by allowing his running mate to discuss Medicare, one of the most critical entitlement programs.
Americans want to go back to work. They want to know, if Romney is elected president, how his policies would create an environment for businesses to hire millions of unemployed Americans.
But the voters, which include both young and old, do not want to remake Medicare. Seniors who have worked all their lives do not want to be asked to buy private health insurance when they are over 65.
And younger voters don’t want to think about a gradual raising of the Medicare eligibility age.
