I profoundly disagree with Sen. Elizabeth Warren on policy. I believe President Trump will win reelection if Warren is the Democratic presidential nominee.
But give Warren credit on one critical point: She is a good debater.
Challenged on Tuesday by John Delaney that her healthcare plan would be tantamount to destroying private pensions, Warren didn’t flinch. Instead, she changed the conversation from policy to posturing. “Insurance companies,” Warren said, “do not have a God-given right to suck money out of our healthcare system.” It was a platitude, but Democrats in the audience loved it.
Again, Warren’s strategy won’t stand up in a general election. It will simply be presented for what it is: a far-left policy that is both unaffordable and detrimental in impact to most Americans. But in a Democratic primary? Well, Warren delivered. Delaney’s rebuttal fell short.
There’s a lesson here for Trump. Warren might be very left-wing, but she’s also a very talented debater.
