The Department of Justice, in a long-overdue decision, dismissed the case against former national security adviser Michael Flynn, rightly concluding, “based on an extensive review and careful consideration of the circumstances, that continued prosecution of this case would not serve the interests of justice.”

The FBI launched its counterintelligence investigation of Flynn in August 2016 as part of its larger effort to discover coordination by the Trump campaign and Russian officials to interfere with the 2016 election. Initially, the stated purpose was to determine whether Flynn was working with Russia in a way that threatened national security interests.
