President Trump nominated Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday night to fill the vacancy left by retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy.
Kavanaugh has served on the U.S. Court of Appeals in the District of Columbia circuit for a dozen years, and was originally nominated to the second-highest court by former President George W. Bush.
It’s not surprising that Trump selected Kavanaugh. He brings a breadth of experience that outmatches the long list of potential nominees handpicked by Trump. What is surprising, however, is how many left-leaning political commentators and pundits are painting Kavanaugh’s nomination as the beginning of a dystopian era like “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
Many on the Left fear that Kavanaugh will not only protect President Trump from possible indictments and impeachment, but will also overturn Roe v. Wade, which would end federal protections for abortion services.

The truth is, no matter who Trump nominated to the Supreme Court, the attacks wouldn’t change dramatically. They’re just finding new ways to be shocked by a run-of-the-mill conservative like Kavanaugh.
