Who: Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt.
WHAT: Leahy is trying to rush a committee vote on Attorney General nominee Eric Holder without approving document requests from Sen.Arlen Specter, the committee’s ranking Republican.
WHY IT’S DIM: Especially on matters of procedural fairness, one shouldn’t mess with Specter. Leahy’s stonewalling is likely to make Holder’s confirmation less likely, not more, because it will cause Specter (rightly) to dig in his heels.
CURE: By now, there is no cure for Leahy’s oft-repeated double standards on ethics and on procedural fairness.
