Lauren Boebert courageously acknowledges Emma Weyant as the NCAA’s fastest woman in the 500-yard freestyle

Colorado GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert deserves praise for introducing a House resolution recognizing Emma Weyant as the real winner of the NCAA Division I Women’s 500-yard freestyle earlier this month. Weyant had finished second to University of Pennsylvania transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, a man. Weyant was the fastest woman in the race. Thomas, a man who transitioned to live as a woman, was on the men’s swimming team for his first three years of college.

There were 21 other congressional Republicans who joined Boebert in honoring Weyant.

“Emma Weyant was the fastest woman competing in the 2022 NCAA Division I Women’s 500-Yard Freestyle, but her first-place win was stolen by a mediocre man who couldn’t cut it in men’s swimming,” Boebert said in the release. “Emma is a world-class student-athlete whose strong performances in the Summer Olympics and 2022 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship speak for themselves. These victories, coupled with her leadership of other women on her team and her dedication to excellence are worthy of Congressional recognition. I will keep working to save women’s sports from woke ideology threatening to strip women of a level playing field.”

Boebert’s resolution is an important step in combating the wave of toxic transgender propaganda suddenly plaguing the country. Female athletes should not be sacrificed at the altar of transgenderism so that men can compete as women. Men have a biological athletic advantage over women, which is the basis for having men’s and women’s leagues in the first place. It is absurd to ignore this advantage and allow men to compete in women’s leagues, stealing scholarships, medals, and honors from female athletes.

It is a personal decision if you want to identify as some other gender. But that doesn’t mean you can undermine fair competition in school athletics.

There are 212 Republicans in the House of Representatives, yet only 22 supported Boebert’s resolution. This is an unacceptable ratio. There should be more Republicans — a lot more — who support science, reality, and common sense.
