More than 80% of voters believe illegal immigration is at least a “somewhat serious” problem, with almost half (49%) calling it a “serious problem,” according to a new Harvard/Harris poll.
Asked specifically if the “current surge in illegal immigrants at the border” is a “crisis that needs to be addressed immediately,” 73% agreed.
And voters know exactly who is to blame for the current border crisis and why.
A full 65% of voters believe President Joe Biden’s executive orders encourage illegal immigration, and another 54% believe Biden is “creating an open border.”
Asked specifically if “people who cross the border with Mexico illegally should be turned back to Mexico” (as was President Donald Trump’s policy) or “released into the US with a court date” (which is Biden’s policy), 71% of voters chose the Trump policy.
People are far smarter than what the Democrats give them credit for. They know that if Customs and Border Protection catches migrants illegally at the southern border, and those migrants are then released into the United States instead of being immediately returned to Mexico, then many more will come.
Biden was given an opportunity to reverse course and bring order back to the southern border when a federal court found his administration didn’t follow the proper administrative steps when it ended Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” program. But instead of reversing his catch-and-release policy, Biden instead decided to follow the administrative steps necessary to continue his open-border policies.
As long as Biden is president, the crisis on the southern border will only continue. The only way for voters to solve this “serious problem” is to put a new occupant into the White House.
