WHO: Scott Allen Pryor and his defense attorney

WHAT: Pryor was charged with, and Thursday acquitted of, attempted murder and arson for allegedly setting fire to his ex-girlfriend’s house. The person he was charged with trying to kill? His ex’s 21-year-old daughter. She suffered severe burns over 40 percent of her body.

WHY IT’S A BAD IDEA: Huh? He admitted to setting the fire. Whether he intended to kill or not, he set fire to a house where people were sleeping, dousing furniture (and the rest of the first floor) with gasoline, making death a foreseeable side effect for inhabitants.

WHY THEY ARE DOING IT: No clue. The victim’s burns resulting from the fire and the 14 surgeries required to heal them  warranted serious charges and conviction.

DIM BULB: Real estate, real pain

Experts are predicting the commercial real estate industry won’t start to recover from the recent recession until 2010 at the earliest. They’re even saying the industry will probably be the last to recover from the recent economic downturn, hurting job growth and development in the region.
