Car wreck reports in Howard county are going on the Web starting Friday. The Howard County Police Department will post them at www.hcpd.org. That means citizens and insurance companies can access reports within about 48 hours of the accident. Previously, accessing reports required citizens to mail in request forms or fill them in at a police station before waiting two or three days for employees to process them.
So, whether you want to find out about your car or about a police cruiser you saw crash into a truck, you?ll have easy access.
Tools that make government more transparent benefit the community. They make it easier to hold our elected officials and leaders accountable and make government more efficient. So Howard?s actions are a good start. Police departments in the region who have not already followed suit, must follow its example and make their records more accessible, too.
