Democratic presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg wants to restrict your right to self-defense severely. All the while, the billionaire travels from city to city with an armed security detail. Thankfully, someone finally called Bloomberg out, to his face, for this hypocrisy.
No, of course, it wasn’t a liberal journalist or an anchor at one of the Democratic presidential debates. They’d never press Bloomberg on this. Rather, during the Q&A part of Bloomberg’s Monday evening Fox News town hall, it was a voter who took the former New York City mayor to task for his inconsistent and out-of-touch stance.
When asked how he justifies his security carrying weapons “that you seek to ban the common citizen from owning?”@MikeBloomberg replied that his security detail is comprised of retired cops who are “very well trained in firearms.”https://t.co/wa74UIMFiH

This is the classism of Bloomberg and his gun control groups’ gun control: They all have armed security. They don’t want YOU lawfully bearing arms unless you’re rich enough to hire security like they do. https://t.co/IyMeqDvmwn

“How do you justify pushing for more gun control when you have an armed security detail that is likely equipped with the same firearms and magazines that you seek to ban the common citizen from owning?” the voter asked. “Does your life matter more than mine or my family’s?”
In response, Bloomberg noted, fairly enough, that he gets dozens of death threats a day. It’s undoubtedly true that he faces more of a threat of violence than your average person. But every person, not just well-connected billionaires such as Bloomberg, has the right to self-defense. And millions rely on it. Estimates vary enormously, but the data shows that there are anywhere between 500,000 to 3,000,000 instances of defensive gun use in the United States each year.
That’s millions of people, most of whom certainly can’t afford private security, who rely on the Second Amendment to protect themselves and their families. And Bloomberg has spent millions campaigning to have their right to do so restricted. Suffice it to say that both the voter’s town hall question and palpable frustration were well-warranted. Bloomberg really has no good answer to explain away his Second Amendment double standard.
