Jimmy Kimmel’s anti-Trump shtick met its match in Roseanne Barr on Thursday. In an interview promoting the revamp of her eponymous sitcom, Barr took Kimmel to task for suggesting her values had shifted because she supports President Trump.
“I’m shocked … because I know you were a very socially liberal person in general,” the host said.
“I’m still the same! You all moved,” Barr exclaimed. “You all went so fucking far out, you lost everything.”
Kimmel laughed, quipping back, “You’re probably right, by the way.”
But Barr wasn’t finished. “I just want to say this, Jimmy,” she continued. “A lot of us, no matter who we voted for, we don’t want to see our president fail … Because we don’t want Pence!” Barr added. “You want Pence for the frickin president?” she deadpanned to Kimmel, who said no. “Well then zip that fucking lip,” Barr replied. “It’s up to us to make this government work, no matter who’s president,” she said. “It’s up to us to do our jobs as citizens and if we don’t like something, you know, let them know you don’t like it and then you’ve got another election in two years. Get out there and vote. Change it if you don’t like it.”
The reboot of “Roseanne” is set to premier next week, rankling some critics upset because of her character’s support for Trump. But Barr’s publicity tour is actually sparking some decent conversations about that decision, giving her the opportunity to explain why someone in the working class felt they had good reason to cast their ballot for the president.
