Over the weekend, a particularly idiotic social justice warrior protest took place in London, England. This time, the target was the Blighty Cafe in North London, which they accuse of being oppressive by featuring a figure of Winston Churchill at one table.
A video of the protest shows a group of around ten individuals entering the cafe and reading off a poorly prepared script. They begin with standard fare SJWisms: “We cannot accept the unashamed colonial and gentrifying presence of this cafe.”
Gentrification is bad, you see, because although it injects jobs, wealth and services into poorer communities, it also upsets hipsters who think they are revolutionaries. The wannabes continued, “We demand that the owners of the cafe apologize to the local community for the poorly thought out and insensitive branding.”

Amusingly, the protesters then demanded that the owner change the decor and menu. This is presumably because the menu’s top item features Churchill’s name.
Then came the crunch line: “To the customer, we ask you that you boycott this cafe until [the owners] take the concerns of the community seriously.”
This is worthy of the reverse rendering of Churchill’s famous V for Victory salute. That said, considering that the Blighty is a breakfast-oriented cafe, it would figure that its patrons are indeed members of the local community and thus not concerned. After all, most folks don’t travel that far to get breakfast.
The muppets, however, weren’t done.
Next they came out with a real gem, shouting that “It is our duty to fight for our freedom! It is our duty to win! We must love and support each other! We have nothing to lose but our chains!”
Hmmm.
There’s an especially idiotic and surreal irony in hipsters insulting Winston Churchill in a London cafe while claiming their action is freedom fighting. Fortunately, one of the diners wasn’t having it and shouted “Churchill fought for our freedom.” Avoiding eye contact, a particularly pathetic SWJ responded, “Churchill was a racist.”
Never was so much ignorance uttered by one person on so important a historical figure.
Still, the SJWs predictably rendered themselves their own worse enemy. The only outcome of their protest is to have given the Blighty some excellent free publicity!
Horatio, the Blighty’s owner, told me that more journalists than ever before have stopped by. And asked for his thoughts on the protest, Horatio’s response was that of a true British gentleman. Churchill, he said, is a “complex, real person whom did many good things but also had his bad points. Overall we choose to celebrate him because he stood up to Nazi tyranny in the Second World War. For that, he a is a hero!”
