Trump in April: ‘I think we will win New York’ in the general

Despite claiming in April that he would win New York, Donald Trump suffered a resounding defeat on Tuesday. When the polls closed at 9 p.m. statewide, Trump was immediately declared the loser by multiple media outlets.

“You know, no Republican other than me will campaign in New York,” Trump said on April 28 while campaigning in Indiana. “They won’t campaign … They assume that is lost. If somebody ever won New York, it totally, with the Electoral College, it totally changes the map. I think we will win New York. I really do.”

A pre-Election Day poll conducted on Nov. 3 and 4 found Hillary Clinton ahead by 17 points.

Both Trump and Clinton won the New York primary on April 19, with Clinton getting 58 percent in the Democratic primary and Trump getting 60 percent in the Republican primary.
