If there were more proof needed that Democrats were faking their outrage over the perfectly fine migrant detention centers, the Democratic heads of local government in Washington, D.C., and Virginia have both rejected the opportunity to oversee one of their own.
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser on Tuesday said the city would “not be complicit” in what she ignorantly described as “the inhumane practice of detaining migrant children in warehouses.”
The day before that the chairwoman of Fairfax, Va., county said that the city wanted “no part” in the “heartless practice” of detaining migrant children who were in the country illegally.
Democrats in Congress last month made a big show about touring the detention facilities in Texas, with the always hysterical New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez likening them to Nazi concentration camps and raving about the migrants drinking out of toilets. When I went to the same facility last month, an agent who was present for Ocasio-Cortez’s tour told me that she misunderstood what the migrant had told her about drinking “al baño,” “at the toilet” which has a drinkable water fountain above it.
Here was an opportunity for Democratic officials to ensure that the detention facilities were kept up to their own satisfaction and yet they declined.
It’s no mystery why. It’s not that Democrats have a problem with the facilities themselves. It’s that they don’t believe illegal immigrants, a third of which are unaccompanied minors with nowhere to go otherwise, should be detained at all. There is no other reason for them to reject every measure the Trump administration has taken to control the border than that they simply don’t believe the border should be controlled.
This isn’t about “the inhumane practice of detaining migrant children in warehouses.” This is about what Democrats have stood for all along: The unabated flow of every destitute immigrant coming in south of Texas.
