229 words Thank you, Baltimore Examiner readers, for helping in our quest to find the future of news publishing. The newspaper you hold now is the last of a great three-year run.

I appreciate the readers and businesses in Baltimore and surrounding counties who supported The Baltimore Examiner.

The good news for everyone in the Baltimore market is that even in the worst economic environment in recent history, our citizens are engaged and craving local news and information.

Baltimore Examiner readers know that, when informed, they can become a chorus heard in Annapolis and city halls.

Our Baltimore Examiner reporters, photographers and line editors proved that a handful of the best journalists can hammer out news and editorials enough to become a major force for good in a state.

It is the honor of a lifetime to work with smart, tough, street reporters who deploy the array of special skills, integrity, intelligence, drive and, sometimes, courage it takes to hunt and gather news, then pound it out fast, objectively and accurately. They have striven to attain the highest ethical standard in the craft and have, by my lights, succeeded.

Special thanks to the dedicated carriers and hawkers who made the special effort necessary to get Examiners into the right hands every day.

And it is an honor to have been of service to Baltimore Examiner readers.

This truly is a special place.

Thank you all.

Frank Keegan was the founding editor of The Baltimore Examiner.
