A pair of Quinnipiac University polls — one in Iowa and one in Colorado — show Republicans poised to make gains in two crucial swing states.
In Iowa, Republican state Sen. Joni Ernst is up 6 points over Democratic Rep. Bruce Braley. Ernst garnered 50 percent to Braley’s 44 percent among likely voters.
Ernst is winning among men (56 percent to 39 percent) and the all-important group of independent voters (50 percent to 43 percent), although she loses women to Braley (50 percent to 44 percent).
Eighty-four percent of Iowa respondents said they have already made up their mind about whom they will vote for.
In Colorado, incumbent Gov. John Hickenlooper, a Democrat, trails his challenger, Republican Rep. Bob Beauprez, by a whopping 10 points.
Beauprez statistically is tied Hickenlooper with women voters, 47 percent to 46 percent, but wins men by 54 percent to 34 percent. Beauprez also wins independent voters by 50 percent to 37 percent.
Seventy-seven percent of Colorado respondents said their mind is made up on who to vote for.
