An unfortunate location for a draft Elizabeth Warren office

Move On and Democracy for America have opened a Run Warren Run office in Iowa. The idea is to build up support for Elizabeth Warren in the nation’s first caucus state. The office is in a Cedar Rapids suburb just off Interstate 380, a reasonably convenient location for eastern Iowa Democrats, next to the state’s second largest city and less than an hour’s drive from its largest university town, Iowa City.

But maybe they should have picked a slightly different location. The suburb in question is Hiawatha, named after Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s mythical Indian (or after a company named after him). And, as National Review’s John Fund is the latest to remind us in an article on how Hillary Clinton forces would attack Senator Warren if she should run, Warren has made claims of Indian ancestry which she has not been able to substantiate. “In April 2012, the Boston Globe broke the news that while Warren never claimed American Indian heritage as an undergraduate or law school student, she began to do so in her 30s as she sought jobs at highly competitive law schools such as Harvard.”

Come to think of it, Iowa is an Indian (or Native American, if you prefer) name too, and so is Massachusetts. Still, if I were running Move On and Democracy for America I would have picked another location for the RWR office.
