Hotline On Call‘s Dan Friedman has compiled a list of where most of the Senate stands on a clean up-or-down vote for a debt limit increase and the news is not good for the White House: Only 21 senators, all of them Democrats, say they would vote for a clean debt limit increase. A full 50 senators, including three Democrats (four if you count Joe Lieberman), say they will not vote for a clean debt limit increase. 28 are undecided.
That means a clean debt ceiling hike would fail badly. The White House better start identifying some real spending cuts they can offer in exchange for GOP votes.
