That news was apparently broken by the Washington Post today, although the reporter, Dana Milbank, seems to have buried his lede. That is, assuming it was correct.
Midway through a column on the Nevada senator’s role as the White House’s attack dog, Milbank drops this nugget:
Reid, who won reelection in 2010 and doesn’t plan to run for office again, is happy to absorb blows in return — and they have been ferocious. (emphasis added)
This is news since Reid, who would be 76 in 2016, has not announced that he does not intend to run again. The claim surprised veteran Nevada political observer Jon Ralston. “Reid has not announced anything about not running. No Shermanesque statements or any at all,” Ralston said via Twitter.
Milbank does not say who his source for the claim is though he does reference talking with people “close to the senator” earlier in the column.
Reid’s office has not responded to the Examiner‘s request for comment. Milbank has not responded to an email on the matter either.
