New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and first lady Chirlane McCray paid an 8.3 percent effective tax rate on $165,047 of total income in 2013, according to tax returns cited by the Wall Street Journal.
De Blasio and McCray donated $5,597, or roughly 3 percent, of their income to charity in 2013.
The new mayor campaigned and took office as a progressive, vowing to combat social and economic inequality.
Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a billionaire, had been notorious for tightly limiting the release of his tax returns, making this the first full release by a Big Apple mayor in 12 years.
De Blasio will make $225,000 a year as mayor of New York City.
