Obama: I’ll get back to you. (ap)

Sporty! President Obama hit the links Monday on the Vineyard, his first full day of vacation. Also on his relaxation agenda: Reading “The Way Home,” by George Pelecanos; Tom Friedman’s “Hot, Flat and Crowded,’ Richard Price’s “Lush Life”; Kent Haruf’s “Plainsong”; and “John Adams” by David McCullough.

Back in DC, it’s like the administration couldn’t wait for him to clear out so they could start rolling out stuff they had been sitting on that he doesn’t want to deal with. First up: Attorney General Eric Holder’s move to assign a federal prosecutor to start looking into alleged detainee torture. Not at all something Obama likes to talk about, along with rendition.

On Tuesday, the president’s financial team will release revised budget figures — the delayed mid-year review that was supposed to come out in July will instead hit on the second day that both the president and Congress are away from Washington. Also something Obama doesn’t want to talk about: A new, 10-year budget deficit estimate of $9 trillion, up from $7 trillion.
