Jon Huntsman campaign ends quarter in debt

Bad news for Jon Huntsman. According to the latest campaign finance report, the candidate promising fiscal discipline has already spent $4.18 million in the third quarter.

Contrast that with Rick Santorum, who has spent just over $743,000 in the third quarter and consistently polls higher nationally than Huntsman.

Politico reports that Huntsman splurged on private jets and the best luxury hotels, but his campaign is not pulling in enough cash to justify extravagant expenditures.

Huntsman raised about $2.26 million from contributors and he lent his campaign $2.25 million of his personal fortune. The campaign is currently $890,000 in debt.

Huntsman spends most of his time in New Hampshire, working to compete with Mitt Romney, Herman Cain, and Ron Paul. He only placed fourth, however, in the latest New Hampshire poll, at 6 percent.

Huntsman recently announced plans to boycott the Nevada caucuses, protesting the state’s decision to move their primary date.

Yesterday, he announced that he would boycott Tuesday’s debate in Las Vegas.

As Freddoso joked on Twitter last night, maybe he couldn’t afford a ticket.
