Some big new ad buys by Republicans in House races, and just a few new reports from the Democrats. A few takeaways:
- Generally, the Republicans are going for broke everywhere, trying to soften up as many targets as possible. The DCCC has spent big in a few places (like OH-13), but they seem to be waiting before they commit too heavily.
- The DCCC seems to be doing a lot more mailers lately than the NRCC.
- AZ-1: Republicans haven’t stopped buying airtime here, more than a week after Democrats pulled out.
- IL-10: The only NRCC buy today defending a Republican district.
- MI-1: The DCCC continues to spend in small dribs and drabs in Bart Stupak’s open seat, while the NRCC makes six-figure expenditures.
- MI-7: We see one of the biggest committee buys in the cycle by the Republicans against Rep. Mark Schauer, D.
- NC-7: Republicans continue to spend against Rep. Mike McIntyre, D, as if they know something we do not.
- VA-9: Note the continued ad buys both against Rep. Rick Boucher, D, and for his GOP opponent. This is rare, as the committees typically stick to negative ads.
- OH: Where’d you go, Ohio? Nothing happening in the Buckeye state in today’s party committee reports, although Democrats spent some money there last week.
- Still a lot of simultaneous survey and ad buys by the NRCC, probably to see whether they’re moving the needle with all of these ads.
- Keep in mind that the Republicans’ disclosure is less precise generally than the DCCC and most outside political groups. In NRCC reports, the costs of TV production and airtime are all reported simply as “media.”
