Texas Confederate license plate rejected

Call Rep. Shelia Jackson Lee.

That Texas license plate honoring the Sons of Confederate Veterans was voted down unanimously yesterday by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles Board.

The Sons of Confederate Veterans are planning to file a lawsuit against the state of Texas.

“It’s very disheartening when people are swayed by emotional issues rather than looking at things historically and correctly,” said Michael Givens, Commander in Chief of Sons of Confederate Veterans to the Associated Press. “Now, because of their actions, they’re going to cause the state of Texas to have to foot the bill for a lawsuit and the taxpayers will have to pay for that and it’s completely unnecessary.”

Perry was not involved in the decision, but was pressured to publicly denounce the plate particularly after he announced his run for president.

“We don’t need to be opening old wounds.” Perry stated last month.
