Howard Dean: media driving Cain’s rise

Former presidential candidate and Democratic National Committee chair Howard Dean attributed Herman Cain’s rise in the polls to media attention on his campaign.

“Here’s what fuels the bubble: the bubble is the press corps. The press corps wants a race,” Dean said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, “they don’t want Romney to be the anointed guy.”

Earlier in the segment, Dean described Cain’s rise as “the anybody but Romney thing . . . This is the Tea Party.”

Dean said he was surprised that Cain’s gaffe when talking about the abortion issue hasn’t already torpedoed his candidacy.
