1| Daniels pushes vouchers

The details: Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels won’t yield to Democrats who mimicked Wisconsin Democrats’ desertion to neighboring states. When Minority Leader Patrick Bauer demanded Republicans drop their school-voucher bill, House Speaker Brian Bosma told him to “have fun in Illinois.”

2| House GOP holds ground

The details: The House GOP offered a continuing resolution to keep the government open for two weeks following March 4, but with $4 billion in cuts — roughly equal to the year-long cuts Republicans have been calling for if just carried out for two weeks.

3| IRS relaxes enforcement

The details: The Internal Revenue Service announced new rules that would make it easier for people struggling with tax debts, pledging to place fewer claims on taxpayers’ property and to make liens less damaging to credit ratings.

4| Florida governor rejects rail

The details: Gov. Rick Scott, R-Fla., rejected a last-ditch effort by the state legislature to accept funding from the Department of Transportation for a high-speed rail project. Scott cited the unaffordability of likely construction cost overruns and the possibility of needing to return the money.

5| House moves to end HAMP

The details: House Financial Services Committee chairman Spencer Bauchus announced legislation that would end the Home Affordable Modification Program, citing high costs and the low number of people the program helped.
