Santorum ready for ‘marathon’ after Mich. tie

Rick Santorum has claimed a tie in Michigan after winning the same number of delegates as Mitt Romney, even though Romney won the popular vote, and he told supporters today that he’s “prepared for this marathon race” of a presidental primary.

“Most people turned their televisions off with news of a Romney victory but the vote counters kept going and this morning the Associated Press is saying out of the 30 delegates awarded so far each campaign has picked up 15 delegates,” Santorum wrote in a fundraising email this afternoon. “We were outspent 6 to 1 in Romney’s home state and he had a campaign infrastructure in place for half a decade, yet we won half the delegates,” he added.

Santorum’s top campaign aide, John Brabender, argues that the delegate results mean observers should regard Michigan not as “a win for Mitt Romney [but] a tie race.”
