Biden’s Cabinet selections are guided by self-imposed racial quotas

The racial quotas and requirements that the Democratic Party and its various factions are imposing on the presidency are un-American, and Joe Biden’s choice to abide by them doesn’t bode well for his future decisions.

California Democrat Rep. Ro Khanna highlighted the absurdity. When asked if it would be hypocritical of him to oppose a waiver that allowed James Mattis to serve as Secretary of Defense while supporting one for Biden’s nominee Lloyd Austin, Khanna told Vox, “That’s a view if you believe race doesn’t matter … My view is we’ve never had an African American lead the Defense Department.”

If Austin was white? “I think it would be a closer call,” Khanna said, “I think it has to be a consideration. It’s a factor, and it should be a factor.”

This kind of absurd logic, that skin color should determine whether or not someone is qualified for a job, was resoundingly defeated in by voters in Khanna’s own liberal state of California. Even though most people oppose this way of thinking, it has become central to the Democratic Party’s view of the presidency.

Biden vowed from the beginning that his running mate would be a woman, and he has promised that a Supreme Court vacancy during his presidency would be reserved for a black woman. But still, there aren’t enough black Cabinet nominees, according to black activists. There aren’t enough Hispanics either, apparently, and Biden must appoint a Latina Cabinet member. Asian American activists have the same complaint of lack of representation.

This is what the Democratic Party’s idea of leadership has devolved into. The qualifications of Austin, or Antony Blinken, or Xavier Becerra don’t actually matter. What matters is their ethnicity or skin color and whether the rest of the Cabinet is already fulfilling the desired racial quotas that activist groups want to see.

The constant talk from Biden was that he wanted to be a president for all people. How he plans to do that while indulging this forced racial division is anyone’s guess. After a particularly divisive year where Black Lives Matter activists and major corporations tried to reinforce those divisions, Biden’s current strategy to build his Cabinet doesn’t signal that he will be able to bring the country together.

Identity-based hiring runs counter to the equality of opportunity for which our nation stands. Most people recognize that, and yet the rot of identity politics in the Democratic Party continues. It isn’t a great start to all the unity we were promised by Biden himself.
