The government has been spending lots and lots of money lately, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., says she wants to make sure its not being wasted.
Pelosi on Thursday sent letters to the chairs of each of the House committee chairs asking them to scour the budgets of the federal agencies to “promote efficiency, and reduce waste in government spending.”
Pelosi said in the letter she wants each committee schedule hearings to examine agency and program budgets in an effort to help reduce the deficit, even as the Democrats, “advance our priorities,” Pelosi wrote.
Pelosi said the hearings are consistent with President Barack Obama’s call for long-term fiscal discipline.
