Rep. Wasserman-Schultz: Well, at least we have an ethics committee again. (Except they really don’t.)

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz D-Fla., on “Meet the Press” yesterday:

SCHULTZ: The bottom line when it comes to ethics reform is that we got the Ethics Committee — Democrats got the Ethics Committee moving again. It’s an effective process that was totally neutered under the — under the Republicans. And now we have an Ethics Committee that is fully functioning and making sure that we take care of the ethics problems when they’re there.

Let’s get this straight. For months now, the Ethics Committee has been systematically whitewashing the PMA earmark scandal. It now slaps Charlie Rangel on the wrist for one egregious misdeed among many with which he has been credibly accused, but Democratic leaders will protect him from all consequences anyway.

In what sense is the ethics committee “moving again” in this Congress? Did they change offices or something?
