Oval Office pre-game

So not a commission, OK. How about…a czar?? (white house photo)

Big show tonight! Don’t worry, NBA playoff fans, President Obama’s Oval Office address will not pre-empt tonight’s Game 6. The president is expected to talk at 8 p.m. for about 15 minutes.

This morning, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs went on ABC News’ “Good Morning America” to sprinkle some tidbits. From The Hill, which may have actually got up to watch this morning:

“We will have somebody who, yes, will be tasked with doing that,” Gibbs said during an appearance on “Good Morning America” when asked if the president was likely to name a single person — or “czar” — in his administration to supervise the long-term efforts.

Obama also is expected to use the address to make a pitch for comprehensive energy legislation. Republicans this morning were busy with pre-buttals in case he also proposes a carbon tax. He will continue to beat on the Minerals Management Service (including a reorganization) and announce the widely previewed BP escrow account. The biggest task, as Fox News points out, is managing the political spillage from the crisis.
