Ron Paul emphasizes pro-life creds in Iowa

People usually associate Rep. Ron Paul’s cult following with his anti-interventionist foreign policy stances and libertarian economic views, but less emphasis is given to the importance of his staunch pro-life record.

Speaking to attendees at the Ames Straw Poll moments ago, Paul began by emphasizing the abortion issue, relating a personal anecdote from his time in medical school. Paul served as an OB/GYN doctor, and is said to have delivered over 4,000 babies.

“If you are not pro-life, you cannot be pro-liberty,” Paul declared.

It’s statements such as those that separate him from the typical libertarian on social issues, which is one of the reasons he’s been able to make waves among the Republican primary electorate.

Even though he may not ultimately win the nomination, he’s poised for a strong showing in today’s straw poll.
