Occupiers heckle Obama in New Hampshire

Last Friday, Shepard Fairey, the Los Angeles based artist responsible for the famous 2008 President Obama Hope poster, released a new poster combining the original Obama image with the “V for Vendetta” Guy Fawkes mask that has been used by the Occupy movement. The poster reads: “Mr. President, we HOPE you are on our side.”

The Occupiers are not going to patiently wait for an answer. Today, they interrupted Obama’s speech in New Hampshire with a human microphone reading (complete with “mic check” opening) of a note asking Obama for support. The full note read:

Over 4000 peaceful protesters have been arrested. While bankers continue to destroy the American economy. You must stop the assault on our 1st amendment rights. Your silence sends a message that police brutality is acceptable. Banks got bailed out. We got sold out.

But the Occupiers never got to read the whole thing. After a couple seconds of stunned silence, some Obama partisans in the crows attempted to drown the Occupiers out with a “Fired up, and ready to go!” chant. But that didn’t really catch on. Finally, the majority of the crowd embraced a simpler, “Obama! Obama!” chant to silence the protesters.

Later in his remarks Obama did say, “A lot of the folks who’ve been down in New York and all across the country in the Occupy movement, there is a profound sense of frustration, a profound sense of frustration about the fact that the essence of the American Dream… feels like it’s slipping away.”

Will this statement be enough to mollify the Occupation? Doubtful. He already once told ABC News, “We are on their side.” The Occupiers seem intent on getting more validation from their chosen one. We’ll see how many Obama events they disrupt before they get it.
