Sometimes, Democrats are entirely predictable and transparent in their bad-faith political tactics. Take, for example, their insinuations that any and all opposition to President Biden’s Cabinet is the result of racism and sexism.
Neera Tanden, Biden’s nominee for the Office of Budget and Management, is a conspiracy theorist who sees the Russians in every shadow. She’s ultra partisan and unqualified. Between punching a journalist and outing an alleged victim of sexual harassment to her entire company, she doesn’t have the temperament to serve in any president’s Cabinet.
Oh, but never mind all that. The real reason is that Republicans, and West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin, are racist and sexist, or so we are told. They are only targeting Biden nominees who are racial minorities, women, or both. This could be a compelling argument in some version of reality, but not the one we currently live in, where Biden imposed racial and gender quotas on his Cabinet decisions on himself.
Liberal activist groups were quick to complain about the racial composition of Biden’s Cabinet after every nomination announcement. Still, NPR says Biden has “kept his word” to make his Cabinet the “most diverse in U.S. history.” White House press secretary Jen Psaki has repeatedly touted the meaningless accomplishments of nominees having a gender, as she did with Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen.
Jen Psaki answers by saying “we have the first female treasury secretary..”

Only six Biden nominees are white men, according to NPR, and one of those is the sainted Merrick Garland. So just about any nominee Republicans would decide to mobilize against would be met with accusations of racism, sexism, or both. It is the same, entirely predictable strategy media figures used to attack Republicans criticizing Biden’s short list for Vice President, which he purposely limited to black women.
It was predictable then. It is predictable now, and it will be predictable if Biden ever has the opportunity to fill a Supreme Court vacancy, which he already promised is reserved for a black woman. New York Reps. Grace Meng and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are breaking no new ground here by pretending that racist sexism is the cause of opposition to Tanden or anyone else. But if they want to attack Manchin, whose vote is required for any contentious issue in a 50-50 Senate, they are free to do so.
Tanden is unqualified, partisan, and toxic. Health and Human Services nominee Xavier Becerra is unqualified, partisan, and toxic.
Opposition to them is based on their record and character, not their skin color or gender. The only people who cared about the latter were Biden and the liberals who obsess about identity, who are also the only people who believe their ridiculous accusations.
