President Obama raised eyebrows in the digital community for criticizing technology in his commencement speech at Hampton University yesterday
“With iPods and iPads; and Xboxes and PlayStations – none of which I know how to work – information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment, rather than the means of emancipation.”
Does this mean that the President of the United states doesn’t know how to use his iPod? Yeah, you know the one where he stores all of his Bob Dylan, Yo-Yo Ma, Sheryl Crow, and Jay-Z songs?
Maybe his kids show him how to turn it on.
For someone lecturing about the pitfalls of technology, its not a good idea to sound like a cranky old man who can’t operate consumer electronics. . .
It’s a far cry from the ‘cool guy’ that wouldn’t let the Secret Service take away his Blackberry after he was elected.
How do you turn this thing on?
Update: This, of course, is not as bad as another famous Illinois political figure, who doesn’t know how to turn on a laptop.
