So much for unclenching our fists and offering an open hand. From Politico:
The British government joined the United States in closing its embassy in Yemen on Sunday, AP reported. Shutting an embassy is a rare and dire step, dramatizing the Arab nation’s emergence as one of the world’s premier terrorist havens.
During the campaign President Obama had pledged to engage with our enemies, believing that this would lead to a reduction in terrorist activity. Given his “surge” decision in Afghanistan and this, he’s dealing with a sobering truth: We are a nation at war with transnational terrorists. His policies, on the other hand, don’t appear to address this fact more than window dressing, and, in fact, don’t appear to be much of an improvement over Bush’s. If this is change, it’s change for the worse.
