Watching David Gregory quiz Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., over the phrase “Gangster Government” yesterday was extremely ridiculous — both his insinuation that there was something “over the line” about the term (he even invoked the Oklahoma City bombing) and her timidity in owning it.
From what I can tell, the phrase as applied to the Obama administration was coined a year ago, and not by Michele Bachmann or any other rabid partisan, but by our own professor of politics, Michael Barone. He was writing last May about a government that threw aside the law in order to rescue the UAW from a GM bankruptcy — which is what the Obama administration did.
