The next best thing to Reagan? (ap photo)
Sarah Palin is heading across the pond and trying to set up a meeting with former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, reports the Daily Mail:
Her representatives approached Margaret Thatcher to ask for a meeting as part of a bid to enhance her claim to be the ‘heir to Ronald Reagan’ and prepare to challenge Mr Obama.
Palin has been stepping up her profile lately, with campaign appearances and speeches, among other things. On Saturday, she appeared on Greta Van Susteren’s Fox News show to talk about Obama’s response to the BP oil spill and deny speculation that she had breast implants. Ah, politics.
“I got to respect you for asking that question because I know that ‘boobgate’ is all over the Internet right now because there are a lot of, I guess, bored, idle bloggers and reporters with nothing else to talk about” Palin said. “No, I have not had implants. I can’t believe, yes, that we’re even talking about this.”
Palin also complained about her latest cover treatment in Newsweek (previous post on that here) but admitted she hadn’t actually read it. The trip overseas is apparently part of an effort to burnish her foreign policy credentials.
The Daily Mail said she hasn’t reached out for a meeting with newly elected Prime Minister David Cameron:
One individual involved in the talks about the visit said: “Palin’s people haven’t said anything about meeting Cameron. Their main interest is getting a picture of her with Lady Thatcher. I’m not sure they know who David Cameron is.”
