Bloomberg, Sharpton, Gingrich. Do not adjust your sets. (ap photo)
Well, they were probably the strangest trio in recent memory to show up at the stakeout in the White House driveway. NY Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Rev. Al Sharpton and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich got together to talk education with President Obama.
“This is an issue that should bring all Americans together,” Gingrich said.
Yes, but what brought these three together? Gingrich, active these days on Facebook and Twitter, is a possible 2012 presidential contender. Bloomberg is running for re-election, and Sharpton is doing whatever it is Sharpton does these days. All three think the nation’s education system is wanting.
“There can be no sacred cows when we come to the table,” Sharpton said. “The president has hope that we can all, as Americans, rise to the level that he has challenged us to put aside the differences for the good of the country.”
For his part, Bloomberg said he’s totally over the Scare Force One photo-op kerfuffle of last week. The White House this week is expected to finally release those photos and conclude its internal investigation into the matter.
“Oh, I don’t know,” Bloomberg said. “The planes are long gone in history. We’ve got to get worrying about things — kids are much more important than that kind of stuff.”
