In a meeting National Governors Association in Washington D.C. today, President Obama lectured governors for making cuts in education.

“I realize that everybody is dealing with limited resources, trust me, I know something about that, trying to deal with tight budgets.” Obama said,  “We’ve all faced some stark choices over the past several years, but that is no reason to lose sight of what matters most.”

Repeating themes from his State of the Union address, Obama insisted that every American should go to college, clarifying that he meant not just four year degrees, but three year degrees from community college and training schools.

“The fact is, too many states are making cuts to education that I believe are too big.” he said, “Budgets are about choices, so today I’m calling for all of you invest more in our children and our future.”

Obama added that he treasured meetings with governors, because as fellow executives they knew about the challenges of governing.

“Governors are at the front lines of the recovery, you see up close whats working and whats not working,” he said. “We know what it means to govern what it means to make tough choices during tough times.”
