Cantwell steps on Murray’s fundraising toes

Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., faces a tough race this year against two-time gubernatorial candidate and former state Sen. Dino Rossi, R.

But you wouldn’t know it by watching her Senate colleague, Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., raise money in the middle of Murray’s cycle.

“Friends of Maria” is holding a pricey reception Sunday afternoon in Spokane. The tab is $1,000 to be a “host” and $250 to be a “guest.” The host committee includes two former Democratic congressional nominees, Don Barbieri and Tom Keefe.

This is considered something of a senatorial no-no, but it’s becoming more common this year. Recall that Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., has been raising money as Robin Carnahan, D, tries to take over the state’s open seat.
