Palin can’t save Ward in Idaho primary

Vaughn Ward was supposed to be the Republican nominee in Idaho’s first Congressional District. Sarah Palin even visited to raise money for him just last week.

But thanks to his own embarrassing gaffes (he even plagiarized an Obama speech) and his failure to vote in the 2008 election, Ward was blown out in last night’s primary by a Tea Partier, state Rep. Raul Labrador, R. The Idaho Statesman has the coverage.

Despite the NRCC’s tacit support of Ward — they had him as one of their “Young Guns” — he may have made himself less electable than Labrador with a large number of unforced errors. Labrador will face Rep. Walt Minnick, D, in November in one of the nation’s most heavily Republican districts.
