When Wall Street’s occupiers rage about bailouts and wars, and when they clash with police and the mayor, I always wonder why they want to increase the power of the very same governments that have them so aggrieved.
This afternoon, Occupy DC folks moved to the Key Bridge across the Potomac. Many, if not most, of the folks using the Key Bridge at evening rush hour live in Arlington County, Va. Some information about Arlington:
Arlington’s median household income is $94,000, and it voted 65% Democratic in the last gubernatorial election while the rest of the state voted only 41% Democratic. Much of the county’s population is federal employees or employees of federal contractors.
When talking on WTOP about Democratic victories in Arlington and nearby Fairfax while Republicans were winning everywhere else in 2010, I said that the Tea Party wave was about grabbing the pitchforks and storming the castle — and Arlington and Fairfax ARE the castle.
So kudos to the Occupiers for storming the castle. Now let’s cut off the pipeline of taxpayer money on which these priveleged elites feed.
