Pro-life initiatives stalled in both Colorado and North Dakota as measures to provide unborn children with human rights were handily rejected in both states.
The proposed “personhood” amendments sought to establish conception and fetal development as stages of life.
Colorado’s rejection of personhood was not completely unexpected. The state had voted against similar legislation on two separate occasions and the measure did not poll well leading up to the vote. With 78 percent of precincts reporting, the provision was trailing by almost thirty points, 63.6 percent to 36.4 percent.
North Dakota’s vote against the personhood amendment was much more surprising than the Colorado result. With 90 percent reporting, 63.8 percent of North Dakota voted no on the pro-life measure compared with 36.2 percent who favored it.
