Rep. Tim Scott, R-S.C., said that President Obama “had nothing to do with” the success of a Boeing plant in South Carolina, which the president mentioned during a speech today, as Scott argued that Obama’s National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) had tried to close the plant as a favor to Obama’s union allies.
“There’s no question that there is great work being done in South Carolina, but no thanks to him,” Scott said in response to Obama praising the South Carolina Boeing plant today. “There is a touch of hypocrisy in his mentioning the great work in South Carolina [after] he and the NLRB stood in the way of allowing a company to make a business decision to locate a factory here in South Carolina.”
The NLRB dropped the complaint to close the plant after Boeing negotiated a contract with the Machinist Union, but Scott suggested that the NLRB would not push another such complaint this year. “I think one landmark case where you can say to your union members and your contributors that, ‘see, when push comes to shove I’m on your side, even when it comes to fighting against America’s largest exporter’ I think one case like that, I think the Boeing case is one case enough,” he suggested.
