Rasmussen Reports has a poll out today showing opposition to President Obama’s health plan at 56 percent, and support at 41 percent. That’s the lowest level of support so far this year.
Some will argue that Rasmussen polls to the right of other firms (this might also be because most others have been polling “adults” on the subject instead of “likely voters”), but the trend matters no matter where the numbers are. The continuing decline of health care reform presents brand new problems for Obama as he tries to push a bill through the Congress.
The strength of opposition among senior citizens should be particularly frightening for him and the members of Congress whom he must win over. Forty-six percent of seniors are “strongly opposed,” compared to 16 percent who are “strongly in favor.” Bearing that in mind, think of Democrats who represent aged districts. For example, unified Democrat support for a health care bill could prove devastating next year for Democrats in Florida, where perhaps a dozen competitive House races will be on the ballot along with races for governor and Senate.
