Fauci has undermined coronavirus responses as much as anyone else

From President Trump’s rhetoric to the hypocrisy of Democratic politicians and members of the media, many public officials and personalities undermined coronavirus responses that they are advocating for. But Anthony Fauci is just as guilty of it as anyone else.

Fauci became the face of coronavirus response and safety, which was to be expected for the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. But Fauci’s own smug hypocrisy and the celebrity status that has been conferred onto him has understandably caused many people across the country to tune him out, and he only has himself to blame.

Take when Fauci complained about “anti-science bias” and people not believing authority, comparing them to anti-vaxxers. One of the leaders of this unscientific group of disbelievers? Fauci, who lied about the efficacy of masks at the start of the pandemic and has wondered ever since why people have more questions about the “expert advice” he continues to give.

Much like Gavin Newsom and Andrew Cuomo, Fauci was caught skirting his own (revised) mask guidance at a Nationals game, where he angrily insisted that he was caught with his mask down trying to take a sip of water. What’s worse is that Fauci was sitting in the stands watching a baseball game, a privilege that would not be afforded to ordinary people for nearly three months.

Now, he’s advocating that we all still wear masks and socially distance after receiving a vaccine and has warned that the United States might not even start to return to normal until 2022.

So, if you’re keeping track, Fauci has been complaining that people don’t trust him after he lied to the country while also saying there is no end in sight to our current predicament as he uses his newfound celebrity status to enjoy things like Major League Baseball games three months before the commoners.

It should be no surprise that people are refusing to listen to the anointed voice on the coronavirus, as politicians and media figures alike are trying to cancel Thanksgiving and Christmas. While schools remain closed, businesses remain strangled by lockdown rules, and mental health issues continue to arise, Fauci’s behavior doesn’t inspire an attitude of compliance. Nor should it.
