Sporting heart-shaped shades and a lip piercing, Occupy D.C. protester Legba Carrefour denied the charges that the Occupy DC movement is full of hippies and has no unifying message. (Video above.)
“I am not a hippie, I have never been a hippie, I shall never be a hippie. I shower absolutely ever chance I get, I shave. I don’t really know how to respond to that. This isn’t the 60’s…that’s over with; there’s like five kids playing drums – big deal.
“I’m not quite sure what section of people are supposed to magically occupy space that doesn’t have a shower in it, and somehow be perfectly clean all the time. That seems kind of unrealistic to me.

Carrefour explains in the video that the Occupy crew has worked to keep the space immaculately clean of trash and debris. He also answered the movement’s most common criticism:
“As for the no unifying message thing, that’s honestly largely part of the point is to not have a central list of overarching demands that are being given down from above. All our lives we are told that, we are given that from above, and very much so this is about letting people develop what they want out of coming here and developing a message collectively and not just people just telling them what to do.”
Carrefour told The Washington Examiner that he is part of the Occupy D.C. media team, but that he holds no official title. “We don’t have titles. I am just a protester,” he said.
