As President Obama prepared to celebrate his 50th Birthday in Chicago, GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney released a new web ad yesterday highlighting the economic troubles facing Chicago.
“Obama Isn’t Working,” reads the video, which opens with a scene from Grant Park, where Obama celebrated on election night in 2008 and higlights the city’s job losses.
That prompted Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel to fire back at Romney, during a press conference with local media:
“President Obama doubled down on America. Mitt Romney wanted to see ‘em go bankrupt. And also, I’d just like to note to the [former] governor in case he needs a rendezvous with his record, when he was governor, Massachusetts was 47th out of 50 in job production. In case he forgot that, I’d like to remind him of that.”
Emanuel, the former White House chief of staff, additionally praised his former boss and was present at the president’s birthday fundraiser.
“He is willing to do the unpopular things, the necessary things, to keep this country moving forward. And I have great admiration for his determination, his grit, his willingness to not do the political easy thing — to do the tough things,” Emanuel said.
